Hello,
My one worry about promising to swap votes is that it is actucally a Bush supporter on the other end, voting for Bush with me voting for Nader at this end - helping Bush in two ways. I suppose there is no way to know for certain who it is you are paired with, but has this concern come up before?
Thank-you.

Gibben,
We are posting our FAQ at VotePair that answers your question. The http://votepair.org site will be officially launching Sept 20th.
Could George Bush supporters sabotage the vote pairing effort to help Bush while hurting John Kerry, David Cobb, or Ralph Nader?
Theoretically, this kind of subterfuge could happen, but it will not affect the outcome in the Electoral College. Bush supporters who register intending fraud would have two options:
1. Pose as Cobb or Nader supporters from swing states. They then would be paired with Kerry voters from safe states. This would decrease the number of Kerry votes in safe states, which would not affect the outcome in those states. (Votepair.org defines safe states very conservatively to ensure that these states remain safe regardless of the impact of vote pairing.)
2. Pose as Kerry supporters from safe states. They then would be paired with Cobb or Nader voters from swing states. This would decrease the number of Cobb or Nader votes in swing states, a strategy counter to the aims of the Bush campaign, which believes that the fracturing of the progressive vote in swing states benefits Bush.

I'M A KERRY SUPPORTER LIVING IN UTAH. NEED I SAY MORE? I WANT MY VOTE TO COUNT. HOW CAN I HELP. THANKS, MARY MARINE

Dear voters at vote pair,
Please help my vote to count!!!
I live in Utah which is the most Republican state in the country. I and many others like me long to have our voices heard through Vote pair. Please swap your green party votes with our Kerry votes. Defeating Bush is the most important thing that any of us can do to improve the future of the country that we all love. Bush is hands down the worst president in the history of this country and getting rid of him is in all of our best interst be it green, libertarian or socialist or any other party that truly cares about our land, our children or our future.

Although I realize that getting rid of Bush is the most important issue, I cannot with clear conscience vote for Kerry. However, with a VotePair partner in North Dakota, my partner can vote my conscience while I concentrate on exterminating Bush in my swing state of Minnesota. I applaud VotePair for this ingenious concept. Let's do it again in '08!!
